Cabrio Washer Error F5E3

WHIRLPOOL CABRIO WASHER ERROR F5E3

The Cabrio Washer F5E3 error code means the lid lock will not unlock or the lock assembly has failed.

  1. This error can happen if there is anything heavy on the washer lid that is putting  the lid lock bolt in a bind not allowing it to release.
  2. Check the lock for interference and make sure nothing is blocking the lock bolt from retracting, sometimes soap scum build up can cover the lock bolt opening and prevent it from being able to retract.
  3. If the lock assembly looks ok and there is no interference then most times the lock assembly will need to be replaced. In some cases it can be the main board at fault, this is not very common but can happen.
  4. There are some diagnostic steps you can take with an ohm/volt meter to determine 100% what the cause of the failure is. If you need help with these steps let us know.

In most cases, this error code is caused by a failed lid lock assembly. The lock assembly can be ordered from the link below:

  1. There is nothing on top of the washer but the F5E3 error is flashing and the manual just tells me to remove items off the washer lid. I unplugged the machine, and it continued to give me the message after plugged it in again. I am guessing that the mechanism is just shot and needs to be replaced. My model number is W10607424A. Can you please tell the lid lock mechanism to be ordered?

    1. I will need the model number of the washer to give you the correct part information. Raise the washer lid and look toward the back of the washer frame and you will see a tag with the model and serial number listed on it.

  7. Hello, I am having the E3F5 problem with my whirlpool duet front loading washer. We have been instructed to order the replacement door latch. I am happy to install the item myself, the issue is that when I search how to replace it, the instructions say you must access the mechanism through the open door. Our problem is that the door is locked shut, rather than unable to lock. Is there any way to access this mechanism through another path? Thank You.

    1. Hello Dominic,
You can manually open the washer door.
      1. Unplug washer or disconnect power.
      2. Remove the lower kick panel.
      3. Reach up along the inside of the front and locate the bottom of the door switch/lock unit.
      4. Located on the bottom of the door switch/lock unit is a tear-drop shaped tab.
      5. Gently pull the tab down about a ¼” or until a click is heard.6. The door should be opened.
If your washer model does not have the access panel at the bottom front of the washer then remove the lid off the top of the washer look down on top of the door lock assembly and you will see a white tab, pull up on that tab and the door will open. But this method is only if you do not have the bottom access panel.
