When trying to start my microwave it keeps giving me H98 and it won't start. What causes this and how do I fix it?
The H98 error is a prevalent issue encountered by Panasonic microwave users. This error signifies that the magnetron, a crucial component of the microwave, is not drawing the necessary power for optimal operation.
Several factors can trigger the H98 error. These include a defective magnetron, a malfunctioning inverter board, or improperly activating door switches.
Unfortunately, testing the magnetron or the inverter board is not feasible. Therefore, the recommended initial step for troubleshooting is to inspect the door switches.
To access the door switches, first, ensure the microwave is unplugged to avoid any electrical mishaps. Then, proceed to remove the control panel. This will expose the door switches, typically located to the left of the control panel opening.
You should find three switches. Remove these and check for any signs of burning or damage. Additionally, press the small actuator buttons to confirm if the switches still produce a clicking sound.
If the switches appear to be in good condition, reinstall them and close the door. Ensure that the door activates all the switches upon closing.
If the door switches are functioning correctly, the issue likely lies with either the magnetron or the inverter board. At this point, you'll need to decide which component to replace.
Panasonic typically recommends replacing the inverter board first. However, it's worth noting that the issue could be equally likely with either component, making this decision somewhat of a toss-up.
