Whirlpool Duet washer keeps giving me F11 error code, what does this mean, and how do I fix it?

The F11 error code on a Whirlpool Duet washer means that there is a serial communication error. It is a communication error between the boards on the washer. This can be caused by a power surge or control board issues.
Unplug or kill power to the washer at the circuit breaker for 30 seconds restore power then press the pause/cancel/stop button twice to clear the last cycle in memory and the display. Try to run a cycle, if the error occurs again then you may one or more bad control boards or a wiring issue between the boards.
