How to Reset Your Appliance And Get It Back Working Again

No, seriously I am writing this and poking a little fun because I’ve been asked a gazillion times where is the reset button or how do I reset my appliance

. I know when you’re washer, dryer, refrigerator, freezer, stove, or any other appliance in your home stops working it’s a real inconvenience and it needs to be fixed. Well, I have some bad news for you aside from a few ovens and certain dryers that have a resettable thermostat there is no magic reset button, trust me I wish there was.

The only thing you can do to reset the electronics is turn off the power to the appliance at the breaker/fuse panel on your home for one full minute then restore power or just unplug it. If that does not solve the problem there is a high likelihood that your appliance has a component failure of some sort and unfortunately, under most circumstances, you will need to buy a part to fix it.

If you need help diagnosing your appliance feel free to submit a question to our free appliance repair help page or even use our paid repair help services listed in our tech help center at the links in our main menu.

  1. Whirlpool cabrio plantinum, UL code, replaced stator and tension rods, worked for less than a month, now throwing the same codes. I don’t know where to go from here

    1. In most cases that error is caused by friction on the drive system which means the shaft is probably corroded and not allowing the tub to float up and down on the shaft properly. You need to replace the shaft and bearing on the washer.
